Essay #1

Josh Wooldridge, Period 7

The authors were correct that people won’t help others in a crisis due to
indifference while they just stand there and watch out of curiosity. There is however
people who will go out of there way, not due to indifference, but to help people out of
guilt or free will. Another thing is people will just stand there not knowing what is
happening until told, then they will act upon the situation. Most people will watch
another human being in distress and do nothing.

The reason why people don’t usually help others is because they feel indifferent
to what is happening to the incident occuring. The person(s) will just stand and watch or
walk away. They most likely don’t want to get involved in a situation that does not
involve them, but will want to know what will happen next if they intervene or not.
Another reason is because what if they have to put there own life at risk just to help one
person. Will they risk there life for another, or walk away not having to put there life on
the line.

There are some people in this world who will risk there life for a stranger or
someone they know, not because they’re “indifferent” , but because they feel guilty just
standing there watching someone get hurt or they want to help the person because of
free will. There aren’t many people in this world though who will go out of there way or
by guilt to help someone in a crisis.

People who gather in a crowd around an incident usually have some people who
want to go in and help, but are either to afraid to look different then the rest of the
crowd, so they just do what everone else does, stand and do nothing. If they see a
group of people, they will go over and watch. If they can’t understand what is
happening, they most likely will look to the surrounding people’s faces and base their
own reaction off of the people they saw.

The people in this world will always watch another person in distress and do
nothing. There are some people in this world that will help someone in a crisis either
due to guilt or free will. People will also just stand with the crowd and copy people’s
reaction to not look different if they intervened in the situation. The authors were right
in saying people don’t help another when a crisis is occuring.
