RIDDLES

1. A man was to be sentenced, and the judge told him, "You may make a statement. If it is true, I'll
sentence you to four years in prison. If it is false, I'll sentence you to six years in prison." After
the man made his statement, the judge decided to let him go free. What did the man say?

Answer. He said, "You'll sentence me to six years in prison." If it was true, then the judge would have to
make it false by sentencing him to four years. If it was false, then he would have to give him six years,
which would make it true. Rather than contradict his own word, the judge set the man free.

2. Mom and Dad have four daughters, and each daughter has one brother. How many people are
in the family?

Answer. Seven. The four daughters have only one brother, making five children, plus mom and dad.

3. Is it legal for a man to marry his widow's sister in the state of California?

Answer. Probably not, since he's dead.

4. How many times can you subtract 5 from 25?

Answer. Just once, because after you subtract anything from it, it's not 25 anymore.

5. Can you punctuate the following, in order to make it a proper English sentence?

I said that that that that that man wrote should have been underlined

Answer. I said that,"that 'that' that that man wrote should have been underlined.

6. On my way to St. Ives I saw a man with 7 wives. Each wife had 7 sacks. Each sack had 7 cats.
Each cat had 7 kittens. Kitten, cats, sacks, wives. How many were going to St. Ives?

Answer. just 1...i saw a man
