Surface Miners Applications: A technological leap

Abstract:

The technology of open cast mining for selective mining grade control, and mineral conservation
with environmental compliance has brought the Surface Miners to the frontline of excavation
and loading equipments.

Its application has been in coal, limestone, and other soft sedimentary deposits

Surface Miners have opened a new chapter for open cast mining systems. The cutting technology
by picks, pick designs and their layout on the drums, conformity with geo-technical parameters
of the mineral deposit and their host rock etc are a vast subject upon which best fit technology
and economics of operation depends.

This paper details out few comparison of case studies of surface miners in India and their
relevance to modern day opencast mining technology.
