They’ve Arrived

By Jack Copping

From the inky black vastness of space it arrived, it slowly drifted towards our little marble of
blue green life, automated systems that had been ticking away for cold eons caused the
forward thrusters to flare to life and slow the ship. Stopping just between us and the moon
it waited. As large as a city, the craft floated watching and analysing. Vast computer
intelligences absorbed life times of human knowledge from the internet and calculated their
next move. Slowly the ship awoke gently coming to life. It was only then that we became
aware.

I awoke with the light pouring through the gaps in the blinds. The light stung my eyes as I
retreated under the covers. When I finally left my room I worked my way down to the
kitchen, sleep clouding my eyes.
