Committee 5B – Health and Human Services

Proposed by: Representative of the State of Qatar

Subject: INCREASED ACTION AND AWARENESS OF THE HUNGER CRISIS IN THE MIDDLE
EAST

The General Assembly

Noting with deep concern, that over the past two years, due to the high food prices crisis, over
one billion people have gone hungry.

Fully alarming, is the statistic that Haiti is in the position of sacrificing 51% of their GDP in
order to supply food to their people.

Recognizing, the need for food in many countries in the Middle East that surround Qatar is growing
rapidly.

Deeply concerned, that the rate of malnutrition is increasing in countries such as Yemen and Syria.

Fully aware, that there are programs dedicated to this cause, but none of them have been fully effective in
fighting for this cause.

Encourages the creation of the Food for fighters program (FFF) in order to distribute food to countries
that need it;

1. Takes note of the millions of lives that could be potentially saved by contributions to the cause as
well as the funding for the program itself;

2. Supports the appropriation of 1 billion dollars for this program, and this number may increase if the
problem gets out of hand to 1.3 billion dollars.

3. Further recommends the creation of the appropriations for the Food for Fighters Committee (FFFC)
to make sure all money goes to this cause and none other;

4. Urges meetings every 3 months to check on progress and to bring up problems, questions, or major
concerns;

5. Expecting that with the FFF program there will be a decrease in pollution and an accompanying
decrease in potential deaths;

6. Supports the creation of the FFF program and the FFFC by the year 2012.
