our fictional 18th Century British Army.

it was in the east!
•To have an idea of the beauty and brutality that was everyday life in mid-18 th
century America.
•To develop an understanding of tactics used by the two sides to fight this
war in the wilderness.
•To gain an appreciation for the geography and how the landscape influenced
the way the war was fought.
•To become acquainted with some of the people who lived during this
incredible time.
Lesson #1
An officer must have an understanding of the
geography of the land to make effective use of it.
Rivers and lakes will play an important role in the outcome
of the French and Indian and how it was fought.
Why #1?
The rivers and lakes were the “highways” of that time. There were no
paved roads in North America. The first long distance paved road (62
miles) was not constructed until 1795 – 30 years after this war.
Why #2?
You could move just about anything (and a lot of it) farther and
faster than on the crude, dirt paths at that time. If you wanted
a road you would have to make it. This was incredibly slow and
frustrating work. Rivers and lakes were strategically important,
so……..
…….you took
precautions and
protected them!
