Definition of Distance Education/Learning:

Unlike the traditional classroom in which a teacher instructs a group of students in a particular
place during a specific time, the distance learning classroom is not limited by time and space
and instruction is delivered either synchronously or asynchronously. Synchronous instruction
takes place when the student and teacher communicate live in real time while asynchronously
instruction takes place when they do not communicate in real time. In synchronous distance
learning, the teacher and student typically interact via internet video or audio conferencing while
in asynchronous distance learning, the teacher generally makes videos, power point
presentations, or blackboard discussion threads available to the student to watch and respond to
on his own within a particular time frame.
