Management Problem:
Whether Information Technology should be introduced as a Major’s specialization in PGDM (2008-
2010) at ITM Navi Mumbai or Not??

Research Objective:
 To understand the attitude, perception and interest of students towards IT industry?
 To understand the various academic and financial requirements which will need to be met by
the college for introducing IT as a major’s specialization?
 To know the performance of IT industry and its future prospects?
 To know the current placement opportunities facilitated by the college and what additional
efforts would need to be put by the college for placing the concerned students?

Research Questions:
 What is the total no. of students from the IT background?
 What is the Total no. of students interested in taking IT as a Major Course?
 What is the minimum no. of students required to introduce any course as a major’s?
 How the IT industry has been performing over previous years?
 What are the future prospects of the IT industry?
 Does the institute have the required infrastructure facilities for the proposal?
 What measures would need to be taken for increasing the awareness among the corporate
for final placements?
 What subjects would need to be included in curriculum of IT majors to make it as
competitive as finance or marketing?
 Would the offering of IT as majors will require any changes in the Fee Structure?
Relevant Variables:
1. No. of students interested in taking IT as a major’s,
2. Education Background
3. Placement scenario
4. Course design
5. Scope of MBA-IT
6. IT Lab
7. Infrastructure
8. Course Promotion
9. Faculty Requirement
10. Visiting Faculty
11. Extra Course Fee
12. IT Scenario- Global & Indian
13. Extra Cost
14. ‘Dominance’ of other specialization over IT

Hypothesis:
 Rating for IT is less than rating for Finance and Marketing
 No. of people going for IT as majors is independent of their perception for scope of IT
 Number of people opting for IT is independent of number of people having IT
background
 Placements is given more importance than course design & Background
 Average Extra fee students are ready to pay for IT as major is less than 10,000/-
