• Descreve hábitos que se tinha no passado,
e que hoje não se tem mais.

( Eu costumava assistir Xuxa quando era criança )

STRUCTURE :

Subject + used to + verb

I used to watch Xuxa when I was a child
To talk about repeated states or
habits in the past
• My dog used to bark at cats.
• I used to smoke.
• I used to be a good student.
• I used to live in England
• She used to play with dolls
The question form is
‘Did you use to…?'.
• Did you use to go out with my sister?

• Did they use to smoke when they were

young?

• Did he use to go to school by bus?

Negative : didn’t use to

• I didn't use to play with my dolls

We didn't use to go out much in the winter

months.
I didn’t use to do my Math exercises

She didn’t use to buy a lot of clothes

• Note :
• The general rule is when there is did or didn't in
the sentence, we say use to (without d)

• Ex : Did you use to study a lot ?

I didn’t use to study a lot.

• when there is no did or didn't in the sentence, we

say used to (with d).

• When I was a child I used to watch discovery kids
