Meanwhile Eucleides and the boys were standing outside the Porta Capena.

Titus: Hello, boys! What did you see on your journey? Did you see the peasants in the fields? Were they
cultivating the fields?

Sextus: We saw peasants. They weren't cultivating fields, but they were resting under trees. But we saw
an inn; our carriage got stuck in a ditch, and it was necessary for us to spend a night at the inn.

Marcus: Yes indeed! I was happy that my father decided to spend the night at that inn. The innkeeper
was a Greek man, named Eucleides.

Sextus: I was also happy because a soldier told us a good story. In that story, a certain innkeeper killed a
guest. I like stories like that. But what are we going to do now? I want to visit the Circus Maximus. Look!
Can I see the top of the Circus Maximus standing over that wall?

Marcus: It is true! It is the Circus Maximus. It is not far off in the distance.

Titus: We aren't able to see everything today. Tomorrow we will have enough time.

Sextus: But what of that building? Don't I see a huge bridge about the gate?

Marcus: You don't see a bridge, stupid. It is an aqueduct, Aqua Marcia. Though, that aqueduct bears
Rome’s water to the city. Watch out for the rain, Sextus!

Sextus: But it's not raining.

Titus: It's always raining, Sextus, for the Aqua Marcia is leaky.
