Creating BI Interactive Dashboards
Dashboards are simply containers for reports
and other content. It allows multiple reports to be
displayed in a tabbed interface. It is ideally used
to provide highly summarized and graphical
content.
Dashboards are first created via the
Administrator Console, and are empty upon
creation without any content. One can click on
the edit link or choose Page Options Edit
Dashboard.
A report is added to a dashboard by dragging
and dropping into the appropriate section.
Multiple reports can be dragged per section.

A report can be added to a section in the new
then drag and drop the report to the section.
Click Save. Dashboard displays the saved
Dashboard.
Properties button of a Report presents several
Report Display Options, such as a link to the
report instead of results, a link option with the
report to appear in a new window etc.
Report Links provide user options to appear
below a given report. Modify Request option
opens Answers page to edit the report.

Oracle BI Enterprise Edition Plus (OBIEE)
OBIEE Plus is a comprehensive BI platform that
provides the best foundation for building
enterprise BI solutions. It includes a full range of
easy-to-use and intuitive end-user tools such as
Interactive Dashboards, advanced reporting and
publishing, full ad-hoc analysis over the Web,
proactive detection and alerts, mobile analytics,
Microsoft Office integration, Web Services and
business process integration, and more. Oracle
BIEE Plus also bundles key Hyperion reporting
products for integrated reporting with Hyperion
financial applications.

Using BI Answers
Oracle BI Answers was derived from Seibel
Answers and is the only report-building interface
for OBIEE. It is used for the construction of both
Queries (the data) and Reports (the
presentation).
BI Answers
Navigate to the OBIEE Home page. Click the
Answers link in the upper right-hand corner. The
Answers start page will display.
It contains 3 main sections, 1) Answers Web
Catalog for storage of reports, dashboards,
filters 2) BIS Presentation Layer for queries to
the BIS Server 3) Applications and
Administration Links.

The pre-populated Subject Area appears on the
upper right-hand portion of the window. Subject
area is a simplified representation of data
elements for end-users, and is part of Metadata
Repository, which can be found in
$BI_HOME/server/repository/*.rpd on the
Server. It is designed and managed via OBIEE
Administrator tool. Select a Subject Area to
analyze. This takes us to the Criteria tab.
Expand the column picker in the left pane to
view columns available for use in the report.
Click on a column, it appears in the workspace
section of the page.
Columns can be dragged to either side. Column
properties, format, formula, filters, deletes and
order can be edited from the icons below the
column name.
Conditional Formatting such as color-coding
based on a certain condition can be set via
Column Properties

Results tab - shows the output. Several types of
Views are available.
Prompts tab - allows User to enter parameters
before a report is run (similar to Filters).
Advanced tab - offers the following key features:
• Create static HTML links to saved reports
• Download Microsoft Excel Query file (IQY),
and when executed, it will pull the results
directly into Excel
• Modify report definition
• Retrieve/analyze/modify Logical SQL sent to
the BI Analytics Server
Alternative way to view SQL
Click on Settings
Administration
Manage
Sessions to monitor system usage, view Logical
and Physical SQL. Long running queries can
also be canceled. The same can be viewed in
NQQuery.log file on the Server under
$BI_HOME/server/log directory.
Dashboards
Takes us to the Dashboarding environment.
