POWER GENERATION
• Water stored in reservoir flows
through tunnel in the turbine.
• As the water rushes turbine
shafts spin and drives the electric
generator.
• Thus the hydroelectricity is
generated.
• When there is low requirement
then the generators can act as
motors and then the turbines
raise the water level and thus
store them back use them when
needed.
Hydro dam

•Water from reservoir flows to the

forebay.
•Tumbling bays are provided at the
start of duct line at both the lakes
i.e. Walwhan and Lonavla.
•At the junction of two duct line,
each is provided with a pair of stop
gates consisting of wooden planks
in an iron frame operated by hand
winches.
•Then its is transferred to dam
through penstock.
Forebay
•forebay is basically a basin
formed by small retaining wall
across the nallah where water
from duct line is led before it
enters the pipeline and is also
a balancing reservoir.
•It provides sufficient quantity
of water to compensate for
small variation in load and
maintains practically a
constant head on the penstock
to prevent air ingress.
•It is basically created to avoid
excess splitting of water.
