• Definition of conflict
#Process that begins when one party percieves that another
party has negatively affected or about to negatively
affect,something that the first party cares about.

# Various views of conflict


* Traditional view of conflict(1930-1940s)
- Conflict as bad,destructive,irrational,violent,dysfunctional.
Hence to be avoided.
- conflict result from poor communication,lack of
openness,trust among people,and due to failure of
managers

* Human relations view of conflict(1940-1970s)
- Conflict as a natural occurence and inevitable.
hence accepted conflict.
- Rationalised their existence and sometimes can
be beneficial for group performance.
* Interactional view of conflict
- Three types of conflicts
.Task conflict
.Relationship conflict

- They advocated minimum level of conflict to
keep the group viable,self critical and creative
and not static,apathetic etc.
- Relationship conflicts are dysfunctional or
destructive
- Low levels of process and task conflicts are
functional and constructive and support the
goals of the group and improve its
performance.

• Stage 1: potential opposition & incompatibility
-presence of condition that causes conflict. can be
because of:-
(1)Communication: semantic difficulties
,misunderstanding,insufficient exchange of
information,noise in comm. channel
(2) Structure
(3) Personal variables: include personality, emotions,
and values
