Border Patrol Confiscates Marijuana

Valued at $1.5 Million

TUCSON, Ariz. – In two separate incidents over the last 24 hours, Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents
seized a total of 3,026 pounds of marijuana. The estimated value of the narcotics is $1.5 million.

On the morning of May 23, Casa Grande Station agents detected a suspicious vehicle that had driven off
the road into the desert. The agents followed the vehicle’s tracks to where they located an abandoned
Chevrolet Tahoe that was concealed with a tarp. Subsequently, agents discovered approximately 1,660
pounds of marijuana within the vehicle. The vehicle and the narcotics, with an estimated value of
$830,000, were seized and transported for processing. (Photos available)

Later that afternoon, Sonoita Station agents conducted a vehicle stop on a suspicious Ford F-250 truck
south of Patagonia, Ariz. Subsequently, a non-intrusive x-ray inspection of the truck revealed anomalies
in the bed and both rear side panels. A more intense inspection of those areas yielded the discovery of
non-factory compartments containing approximately 1,366 pounds of marijuana with an estimated
value of $683,000. The marijuana and the vehicle were seized. The driver is in custody pending
prosecution. (Photos available)

The experience and dedication of Border Patrol agents continue to be invaluable tools in fighting
transnational criminal organizations. The high level of vigilance of Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents
remains an obstacle for any drug traffickers that attempt to operate within the Tucson Sector.
