Fall 2009 Unit 3 Three Phase Circuits and Induction Motors 12/1/09

Objectives
Be able to:

1. Draw a phasor diagram for the line and phase values of voltage and current for a three-
phase system.
2. Convert a balanced delta load to an equivalent wye load.
3. Convert a balanced delta source to an equivalent wye source
4. Draw the per-phase equivalent circuit of a three-phase system one line diagram.
5. Apply per-phase analysis to a balanced three-phase circuit to compute voltages, currents
and “power”.
6. For steady-state running conditions, determine the speeds illustrated in Example 5.1 fo a
4-pole induction motor.
7. Use the complete equivalent circuit to calculate quantities illustrated in Example 2 of the
handout.
