Fiat’s TwinAir-International Engine of the Year

Looks like Fiat S.p.A has become the Master of Greatest ever Engines. It has got best performance
engines in Ferrari as well as got the best Fuel Efficient & Low Emission producing engines for small
car. Fiat’s Multijet Diesel engine has already been very famous for its amazing fuel efficiency and
performance and now its time for a Gasoline(Petrol) engine.

Fiat showcased its 1st TwinAir Gasoline at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show. Later on it
went on sale in Europe, North & South America, Japan, etc. India is not on the list of TwinAir Engines
as of now.

Fiat’s TwinAir Engine has been awarded the title of International Engine of The Year 2011. The Judge
panel consisted of 76 expert motoring journalists from 36 countries, including USA, Japan, China,
Russia, New Zealand, India, Korea, Germany, France, Romania, South Africa,Mexico, UK, etc.

The 875cc Gasoline fueled engine churns out massive 85HP(63kw) power! Yes, that’s massive! So the
power-to-weight ratio is a very big advantage for zippy yet fuel efficient driving. The Two-Cylinder
Turbo Engine features a small size turbine. This turbine combined with the dedicated valve
management startegies, reduces transient response times and keeps the maximum power output
levels high. The TwinAir is equipped a number of features usually found in higher engine classes,
such as the electrohydraulic control of the Multiair inlet valves and an innovative timing chain that
cuts engine running costs because it does not need any maintenance. A counterrotating balancer
shaft also guarantees that vibrational comfort is maintained in all operating conditions.

The Fiat 500’s TwinAir engines weighs 85kg, emits just 95g/km of CO 2 and delivers fuel efficiency of
54mpg in USA. The TwinAir engines will soon be launched in 65HP version, 105HP version and also a
economical Turbo BiFuel 80HP version.
