Introduction Why VSAT networking? Applications
E-learning Information and communication High speed broadband Rural telephony
Introduction
VSAT stands for Very Small Aperture Terminal Its basically a two way satellite ground station with less than 3mtr. tall(most of them are 0.75m 1.2m tall) dish antenna. Frequency band : Ku band
u/l: 14.0- 14.5 ghz d/l: 10.95-11.2 ghz
Primary job is accessing the satellites in the geosynchronous orbit (35,786km)and relaying data from terminals in earth to other terminals and hubs.
Geography
Versatile satellite networks provide the capability to span rain forest, deserts and mountainous terrain, or connecting remote island locations.
Bandwidth Advantage
Satellite networks offer bandwidth advantages that provide a bigger Pipe for transmitting Video, Voice and Data.
Applications of VSAT
E-Learning
Access to educational resources from outside the institution on a global and instant basis. Oppurtunities for international, cross-culture and collaborative learning. Ability to serve a large number of students at a potentially reduced cost.
News: In the present context timely and updated news sources are not available for example live telecast, weather reporting etc. web news portals can be very handy for the flow of news. Tele -centre are established with a view of providing Communication Technology to the people of urban and rural areas.
