Cara Praktis Update Bios Motherboard lewat CD

Belakangan ini Floppy Drive menjadi hardware langka. Beberapa PC Branded (baca=bermerk) sudah tidak mem-bundle paket PC nya dengan floppy disk lagi. Hal ini membuat proses update BIOS menjadi agak rumit, terutama bila mengingat banyak pihak yang tidak menyarankan meng-update BIOS lewat Windows. Beberapa Program Update BIOS memungkinkan proses Flash dilakukan di dalam Windows namun tingkat kegagalannya cukup tinggi. Update BIOS yang gagal akan mengakibatkan komputer Anda dalam hal ini Motherboard menjadi barang rongsokan, kecuali motherboard yang memiliki failitas Dual BIOS atau Bios Backup. Lalu apa solusinya? Buat CD Bootable (baca= bisa digunakan untuk booting) dengan program update flash didalamnya. Anda juga dapat membuat USB Flashdisk bootable dengan program update flash didalamnya. Anda bisa temukan tulisan tentang hal tersebut di bagian lainnya. Disini saya akan menggunakan program pembakar CD Ahead Nero Burning ROM version 7. Anda bisa menggunakan Software burning CD yang anda senangi selama program tersebut memiliki fasilitas pembuatan Bootable CD. Pertama, Download file Boot Image di sini. File ini berbeda versi dengan yang digunakan dalam posting Membuat Hirens Boot CD dari Flashdisk Anda perlu file boot.zip ini untuk membuat sistem CD Bootable. Gunakan Winzip, WinRAR atau program ekstrak file lainnya. Ingat di mana Anda menyimpan file hasil ekstraksi ini. Nanti Anda akan memerlukannya. Berikut ini daftar file yang terdapat dalam file image. File-file inilah yang nantinya muncul dalam drive A:\ setelah Anda melakukan booting. File Image ini hanya berisi file-file penting yang diperlukan DOS dan seumlah driver CDROM ATAPI dan SCSI. Jika Anda mencari emm386 atau himem, Anda tidak akan menemukannya. Mari kita mulai. Saya asumsikan Anda telah berhasil men-download file yang diperlukan tadi serta program Update BIOS yang tepat. Panduan membuat Bootable CD 1. Buka Nero Burning ROM dan pilih New Compilation.

2. Pilih CD pada bagian atas drop down list. 3. Pada sisi kiri, scroll ke bawah sampai muncul CD-ROM (Boot), Pilih. 4. Pada Tab Boot, pilih Image File sebagai sumbernya dan Browse lokasi dimana Anda tadi menyimpan file boot.img 5. Klik tombol New. 6. Dalam sesi File Browser, arahkan folder ke tempat Anda menyimpan file hasil download BIOS. Drag dan Drop file tersebut ke sisi kiri panel 7. Pilih CD-Writer yang akan Anda gunakan dari drop-down list 8. Klik tombol Burn untuk mulai membakar CD Bootable Anda. Meng-update BIOS dengan menggunakan CD Bootable Panduan di bawah ini mengacu pada update bios komputer DELL. Sesuaikan perintah dengan yang ada pada komputer Anda. Akan ada beberapa perlakuan yang berbeda bagi tiap motherboad. 1. Boot komputer dan ketika muncul BIOS Boot screen, tekan tombol F12. Masukkan CD yang tadi telah Anda buat. 2. Pilih Booting dari CD, maka selanjutnya Anda akan lihat DOS Prompt A:\ 3. Drive A berisi file yang berada dalam boot.img seperti saya sebutkan sebelumnya 4. Drive Z berisi File Update BIOS Anda. 5. Pindah ke drive Z, ketik Z: [Enter] 6. Pada DOS Prompt, ketikkan nama file Update BIOS Anda, misalnya saya pakai BGX24005.EXE. 7. Ikuti perintah yang ada di layar hingga selesai. 8. Create BIOS Update CD

Many that purchase a Dell PC do not get the optional floppy drive or the floppy drive might not even be an option for that computer. That complicates updating your BIOS, especially when most people will recommend that you never use Dell's BIOS Flash updates within the Windows enviorment. Dell's BIOS Flash Update Program does support flashing from within Windows but the failure rate is high. A failed BIOS update ruins your computer. What do you do then? Create a bootable CD with the flash update program on it.

You can also create a bootable memory key with the flash update program on it. I cover that on another page. I am using Ahead Nero Burning ROM version 7. You can use any burning software that you prefer as long it supports creating a bootable CD.

Download the boot image file

You will need to download the bootable image file boot.zip. This image file will be used to make the CD bootable. Use Winzip or WinRar to extract the file boot.img from boot.zip. Remember where you extracted this file to. You will need this file later. Here is a list of the files that are contained in this image file. These will show up on the A:\ drive after you use it to boot your computer. The image contains only the neccessary DOS system files and different ATAPI- and SCSICDROM-Drivers. It does not contain emm386 or himem which could compromise the BIOS update.

So let's get started. I will assume that you have already downloaded the necessary AND correct BIOS update program.

Instructions on how to create the bootable CD

1. Start up Nero Burning ROM program and choose "New Compilation".

2. Select CD in the upper left hand drop down list 3. Scroll down the left side and select "CD-ROM (Boot) 4. On the Boot tab, select "Image file" as the source and Browse to where you saved the file boot.img. 5. Now click the "New" button.

6. In the File Browser section, navigate to the folder that you downloaded the BIOS update program to. 7. Drag and drop the BIOS update program to the left pane. 8. Select your burner from the drop down list. 9. Click on the Burn button to burn the CDR or RW.

Updating the BIOS using the CD

The following instructions are based on a Dell computer. Use the appropriate instructions for your computer.

Boot the computer and when you see Dell's BIOS boot screen, press the F12 key. Insert the CD that you created into the CD drive. Select boot from the CDROM. You should now see the DOS A:\ prompt. o Drive A will contains the files that were in the boot.img file. o Drive Z will contain your Flash BIOS update file. Switch to Drive Z At the DOS prompt, type in the name of your Flash BIOS update file. o In this example, it would be MP061A06.EXE. Just follow the instructions on the screen.
