Manufacturing for Wealth We first define manufacturing and classify different types of products. We also study its relation with other sectors of economy and with different types of wealth: material, natural, intellectual and cultural. History and Geography of Manufacturing We first review the waves of Western industrial revolution. Then we focus on the Indian manufacturing industry, from ancient to the recent decade. Its current status is compared with others in a global scenario. Future Drivers and Enablers Here we study the major economic drivers (globalization and IPR) and technological drivers (artificial intelligence, green materials and direct manufacturing) that will influence future products and processes. Manufacturing Policy Framework A vision and mission for manufacturing industry are proposed. In line with these, a policy framework, in terms of interfaces between the Government, academia and industry is also presented.
