Juan Lunas Spoliarium

The Spoliarium by Juan Luna is a great work of art as it includes different elements and principles of art. It gives emphasis on the left part of the painting where it is most busy. It utilizes the light in order to spotlight the dead bodies and the spectators that are standing near. The painting also shows a sense of movement as the bodies in the painting is being dragged away. It also shows contrast, the left side is very busy, while the right side is quiet and poorly lit. This shows the tension that the people is feeling when they see the painting face to face. It also gives us a focal point which is the bodies that are being dragged to the dark portion of the painting. Asymmetrical balance is also evident, because of the lack of emphasis on the right side of the painting.

Auguste Rodins The Thinker The Thinker by Auguste Rodin can be considered as a work of art as it contains elements and principles of art. It shows the form of the man that is being replicated in the sculpture. It also shows space between the different body parts. It also shows actual texture of the materials that was applied in the sculpture. The sculpture was also symmetrical because it is a human being. It also shows a sense of stability and balance to the audience as it can stand freely and it shows through his gestures. It also shows emphasis on the hands of The Thinker. And lastly, the unity of all the body parts contribute greatly to the image that the sculpture is portraying-a thinking man.

Though the works of art vary greatly from each other, we can still use similar methods of assessing and analyzing each work of art according to the elements of arts and their contribution the world of art and beauty. And there are also some things that is only applicable to sculptures, while there are also that are only applicable to paintings. One must be very much sensitive and

de-familiarized in order to properly appreciate and comment on an artwork. It also requires extensive and in depth research study about the specific work of art that one would like to look into. We have learned that in order to fully understand art, we should be able to be one and relate with the art work and embrace the passion of the artists that made it.
