Product Safety Alert

UL warns of potentially hazardous compact fluorescent lamps


UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is notifying consumers, retailers and distributors that compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) manufactured by Taean Co. Ltd., may pose a risk of shock and fire hazard. The product does not comply with UL's safety requirements and is not eligible to bear the UL Mark. Name of Product: Compact Fluorescent Lamp, model P17713 Number of Units: Unknown quantity Manufacturer: Taean Co Ltd, Taean-Gun ChungChong-Nambdo, Republic of Korea Dates of Manufacture: April 2006 through April 2007. Hazard: The lamp may overheat and melt the enclosure, exposing live parts -- posing a risk of fire and/or electric shock. Identification: On the product: The enclosure on the base of the product has an unauthorized UL Mark and one of the following date codes: DA06, LA07 or DA07, Model P17713, cULus Listed 60GJ Self-Ballasted Lamp.
