MINNESOTA STATE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN FACTSHEET

The Republican Legislature passed a complete, detailed, balanced budget that spends $34 billion for the FY 2012-13 biennium - the most for a single budget in Minnesota state history. Since this budget was struck down by the Governors vetoes, Republicans have offered him two additional compromises.

Whats at Stake?

The GOP budget keeps Minnesota open and operating, but Governor Mark Dayton insists that $34 billion is not enough government spending and that we absolutely must raise taxes on Minnesotans. Dayton says he would rather shut down state government than call lawmakers back for a special session.

The following chart shows state government services that would have been funded under the Republican budget, and what will happen under Gov. Daytons shutdown.
