Neuburger English 102 13 June 2011 One Paragraph Essay Dumpster Diving is it Worth It Lars Eighners On Dumpster Diving explains how to tread through trash as a means of survival. Eighner enlightens us on how Americans can be so wasteful. Eighner gets all his essentials from dumpsters, even his food. Eighner claims there are three principles to diving using the senses) (358), ( knowing the dumpster) (358), and ( Why was this discarded?) (359) We trash things for fear it is no good or were just plain lazy, and the scavengers retrieve our discarded food and have a hardy meal without a second thought. Eighner describes how colleges are the place to scavenge when he claims, Dumpsters in this area are very rich, (360) because they throw away everything on Daddys money.(361) Eighner says he is a scavenger because he only dives for necessities, instead of saving everything he finds whether it is clothes or medication. If Americans are this wasteful that thousands of homeless people can live off our leftovers, then who can blame them for living off of what we have already thrown away.
