Anne Bradstreet questions 1.

How would you best restate lines 19 and 20 of "Upon the Burning of Our House"? Explain. Anne could have lost everything, such as the memories, property when the event occurred. But the person who burned the house down decided to not completely demolish it but to the point where there will still be parts of the house left that Anne can feel the sorrow of what she has lost.

2. What is the source of comfort to the speakers in both "To My Dear and Loving Husband" and "Upon the Burning of Our House"? Give evidence from the poems. The source of comfort for the two speakers can be seen as the afterlife. At the last two lines of both poems the speakers refer to some sort of a afterlife. In Upon the Burning of Our House The world no longer let me love, My hope and treasure lies above. The word above, can be
referred to the after life. Also in To my Dear and Loving Husband the last two lines Then while we live, in love let's so persever, That when we live no more, we may live ever. The word ever can be seen to refer to the after life.

3. Who or what does the speaker hold responsible for the burning of her house? Give evidence. God, in line 19, 20 the author is basically saying he meaning God could have taken everything but has left some parts left. He might of all justly bereft But yet sufficient for us left. 4. How would you best restate the last two lines of "To My Dear and Loving Husband"? Explain. The last two lines can be restated as the speaker expressing her ever lasting love towards her husband. She is saying Let us love intensely while we live and let us love forever even after death. 5. What set of lines does the speaker of "To My Dear and Loving Husband" establish her unity of her husband? Explain.
If ever two were one, then surely we. If ever man were lov'd by wife, then thee. If ever wife was happy in a man, Compare with me, ye women, if you can. The four lines are stating one is equal to the other. The last line compare with me, ye women, if you can is saying I am incomparable because we are so alike.
