How do Mean, Range and Standard Deviation respond to an increase of all data points by the same amount?

Let each data point be increased by 10. Let us examine each attribute: (i) Mean = (x+10)/N= x/N + [(10*20)/20]= Original Mean + 10 That is, the mean is increased by 10. (ii) Range = (Largest score +10)-(Smallest score +10) = Largest score-Smallest = Original range That is, range doesnt change. SD = {[(X+10)-(Mean +10)]2 /N} ( since, mean increases by 10) = {(X-Mean)2 /N} =Original SD That is, SD is not changed.

(iii)

Conclusion: Only mean changes and, by the same amount and in the same direction the data points do. Range or SD is not affected.
