ANCYL and Land redistribution Land in South African was stolen by English and Dutch colonialist over a period

of a few hundred years. This was followed by legislated restriction on land owne rship for blacks and other racist laws of apartheid. The net result of this for blacks in South Africa is that currently most live in torrid conditions in infor mal settlements scattered around outskirts of all cities and towns. There is no dought that this situations needs to be remedied. It is not correct that today s gen eration of blacks have to continue to suffer from the legacy of apartheid, such as the informal settlements and poverty. Now the question is what to do about it? How to correct the injustice that was d one? The ANCYL position is that blacks should steal the land from whites and this acc ording to the ANCYL will correct the injustice and is the only remedy. The logic behind this is the land was stolen in the first place and therefore it is not i mmoral to steal the land back from the criminals who stolen the land in the firs t place. The first major issue with this is that white land owners today for the most part bought their property in a legal manner. Yes apartheid benefited whit es at the expensive of blacks and yes a large portion of white south Africa is r acist to this day. But the white population of land owners today did not steal a ny land. Land was gained in a legal fashion albeit in a system of massive immorality. Doe s this mean that land bought legally in an immoral system are not legal and shou ld be viewed as stolen land from the group who suffered the injustice of the imm oral system?
