SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

PLACEMENT RULES
1.

All Summer Internship Projects (SIP) of 14 weeks (Tentative Duration Feb. 8th to 14th May, 2011) are mandatory and shall be routed through Placement Cell. Till such time a student does not get a firm offer for Summer Project, there shall be no limit on the number of applications he/she can make. The moment a first offer is received by a student, the concerned student shall be automatically excluded from the list of applicants and all other applications made by him/her to any other Company shall stand cancelled. If a student has sent his/her application to a Company and thereafter receives a call from that Company for the selection process (test, group discussion, interview etc.) and then the student shall necessarily present him / her at the specified time and place. a. Exceptions may be made if a student has already received a Firm Offer.

Refusal to participate in the selection process or accept the offer will disqualify the student and he/she will not be eligible for any further assistance from the Placement Cell.

No student after having received a Firm Offer from one company shall be allowed to change over to another company. Attempts to do so will render the student ineligible for Final Placement through the institutes Placement Cell and his/her name will not be included in the Final Placement Brochure. In case a company makes a firm offer to a student without the concerned student having made any application to that company, then the student shall retain the option of accepting/rejecting the offer. (Applicable only in the case of First Phase of Placement Session). Students, if interested, may apply to organizations against specific functional positions announced by them only. The Placement Cell shall not entertain applications/resumes of students who want to apply for hypothetical positions or for functional areas not announced. It is mandatory for all students to submit copies of their SIP offer letters from the company to the Placement Cell latest by 2nd week of February. On completing the Summer Internship Project, it is mandatory for all students to submit a copy of the SIP Completion Certificate received from the company, to the Placement Cell.

SHORT LISTING The short listing of students will be done by the companies themselves, on the basis of information supplied & verified by the students with the Placement Cell.
a.

In case a company insists that the Institute should do short listing, it will be done on the basis of currently available academic marks/CGPA. Only in such cases, for which complete marks/CGPA are available will be considered, besides any other basic or minimum requirement that may be relevant to the company.

APPLICATION
a.

PROCEDURE-

Placement Session is conducted in two phases. Phase 1 commences from 15 th October up to 1st December, during first phase there shall be no restrictions on the number of organizations to which a student may apply provided he/she goes through the entire process, for whichever company he/she is short listed. The Second Phase starts from 1st December. During this phase, Placement Cell will have the right to shortlist the students for various companies depending on the Project and Skills required for the said project. It will be mandatory for short-listed students to appear for the interview. Defaulters will be put out of the placement process.

The SIP offer letter should state the following details:i. Student Name & Enrollment no. ii. Company name, Address & Contact details iii. SIP Project Details

iv. SIP Duration v. Location vi. Company SIP Guide & contact details. vii. Stipend (if any)

Within the stipulated period, students should forward the soft copies of their updated CVs to the Placement Cell in the prescribed format, for sending to the organization for every position they apply. Any change in the students details such as contact nos. (landline)/mobile nos./address and data must be updated with the Placement Cell from time to time.

The students should submit their bio-data within the prescribed time limit after which the Placement Cell will not accept/forward resumes submitted beyond the deadline.

Students are advised to keep sufficient hard copies of CVs, passport size photos, etc. ready so as to submit it as per deadlines announced by the organizations.

Sometimes organizations, at the time of their campus interviews, may inform the Placement Cell that they are interested in screening more candidates. Then the Placement Cell will ask other interested students to apply immediately and the students may have to submit their resumes at short notice. Making several copies of the resume is, therefore, desirable.

PROCEDURE

TERMS FOR OBTAINING OWN SIP -

Students wanting to make their own Summer Intern Projects arrangements may do so by keeping the Placement Cell well informed in advance, latest by 31st Oct. Students opting for their Own Summer Projects will be provided assistance with recommendation letters & bonafide certificates, on prior request made to the Placement Cell.
b.

Students trying to arrange their Own SIPs will have to submit to the Placement Cell a copy of the SIP offer letter/email confirmation by 1st December, failing which they will have to participate in IInd Phase of Placement Session conducted by IBSMumbai.

SIP OUT
a.

OF

IBS-MUMBAI CAMPUS -

Students who would be undertaking outstations Summer Internship Projects (Out of IBS-Mumbai, campus) should complete all required formalities regarding Center Transfer by 1st week of January i.e. submission of SIP confirmation offer letter/email message along with application form available in the students Hand-Book, for Centre Transfer to the Administration Department of IBS-Mumbai and a copy to the Placement Cell. Students whose CGPA is below 5.5 (five point five) and with more than two D grades in the 1st semester, will not be permitted to undertake outstation Summer Interns.
