Mission Statement
To promote the development of nursing profession to a high standard for the benefit of society. To improve the social and economic conditions of nurses.

Objectives
1. Nurse development 2. Nursing standards 3. Influence Nursing Education 4. Promote Research, Professional ethics and nursing management 5. Influence health policies for prevention/solve health problems

Inform members of trend, issues and changes in professional practice. Promote mutual understanding of employer & members Ensure social & economic welfare is improved.

Promote international understanding, solidarity through international work and contribution to democratic development and protection of Human Rights. Organize all nurses registered and practicing in Fiji including all persons in training for the profession of nursing. (FSN)

Functions of FNA
Represent Collective Interest of nurses Review nursing component to Health Service in technological, or scientific advance recommending for change to authorities. Communicate to selected group or media health care information

Promote & provide education and professional activities for members. Lobby /sponsor projects to advance nursing & health care Establish Code of Ethics for Nurses

To maintain standards of performance. Publish newsletters, journals or updates for nurses on professional or other matters Negotiate for members for promotion of working and appropriate employment condition. Foster international affiliation of professional and trade union bodies to be dynamic and significant influence on matters of health and social policy, professional and socio-economic standards worldwide.

Conclusion
FNA is recognized by Government as the Bargaining Association for Nurses and medical orderlies under Trade Union Act (now the Employment Relations Bill) It is a strong advocate for Nurses and healthcare workers. It bargains for improved working conditions, terms of employment , change in nursing policies etc.

Takes up women issues and promotes justice and fair pay. The Fiji Nursing Association as a Trade Union and professional association works towards the betterment of the nursing profession. It works closely with Ministry of Health to enhance the working life of a nurse through the terms & conditions of employment including salaries, training opportunities and nurses grievances.
