Letter to the editor The Day Published June 27, 2011 New Development Plan Wont Help Stonington

! On June 7, 2011, I spoke at a public hearing held by the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission. The topic was a proposed development of 68 attached housing units and 11 single-family houses on Mary Hall and Greenhaven roads in Pawcatuck. Cherenzia and Associates is the applicant. ! I passionately oppose this project. A densely packed, urban-style development does not suit our neighborhood. Up to 100 walkers a day who frequent these roads will be adversely effected by increased trafc caused by such a high density development. ! I object strongly to extensive ledge removal Cherenzia proposes. Disruption to water supplies due to blasting could affect the amount of water draining not only into adjacent wetlands but also into neighborhood wells. The new development will be supplied with Westerly municipal water while my home and 33 others in the immediate area depend on wells for our water. ! I would like to make a point about unintended consequences. We are in perilous nancial times. If this project fails, the Town of Stonington could be left with 58 acres of stripped land, failed local wells, and unsaleable housing units. Peg Moran Pawcatuck, CT
