Semiology, semiotics: is the study of cultural sign processes (semiosis), analogy, metaphor, mea ning and communication, signs and symbols. Semiotic is closely related to the field of linguistics, which in turn, studies the structure and meaning of language. Semiotics is divided into three branches: Semantics: deals with the relation of signs to their designata and objects that may or may not indicate Syntactic: the branch of semiotics that deals with the formal properties of signs and symbols. More precisely, it is syntactic "rules governing how words combine to form phrases and sentences." Pragmatics: deals with the biotic aspects of semiosis, that is, with all psychological phenomena, biological and sociological factors that occur in the functioning of signs. .
