1st scene: Good Samaritan (Two men were battering an old man on the street.

After getting the old man's possessions, they left him terribly wounded. The good samaritan saw the old man, and did not hesitate to help him.) Good Samaritan: Sir, you look terribly wounded! (She used her hankerchief to cover the wound of the man) Old Man: Thank you, you are so kind. I was a stranger to you, yet you helped me. Here, take this. ( Man gives the locket or necklace) This is the only thing i could give in return of your kindness. Good Samaritan: Oh, no sir, that wouldn't be necessary. Helping someone who is in need is enough for me. Old Man: Thank you. May the Lord bless you. ( And the two part their ways.) Narrator: During the early christian era, with Jesus Christ's teaching of love and care, groups of people were organized as orders to care for the sick, the poor, orphans, widows,aged, prisoners, and slaves. They are called deacons and deaconesses. Years after, the Good Samaritan later served as one of the deaconesses in their community. 2nd scene: Phoebe visiting a house Phoebe: Good Morning, I am here to see your father's condition. How is he? Child: He looks fine now compare to yesterday. Phoebe: That's good. Just continue to give him sponge bath whenever his temperature rise up. Child: Thank you madam. I thought he won't get better. I'm so glad there are people like you who help us. Phoebe: Thank the Lord also. Remember he won't abandon us no matter what. Narrator: in time, the deacons/ deaconesses' influence weakened when the church removed their duties and ranks. 3rd scene: Lawrence calling for help Lawrence/ Deacon 1: Bishop! We turn to you for your aid. Our duties and ranks were removed, and some of us were persecuted! Please, help us! Deaconess 2: Our homes could not house the sick people too..they are too many! Bishop: I see your predicament. From now on, this house will be a home for stangers, sick, insane, leprosy affected orphans, aged, and travelers who are in need. Narrator: And that is how the xenodochium grew up. Roman matrons,known as women with high rank and freedom, gave their wealth to charity and nursing.. And one of them is Marcella.. 4th Scene: Marcella Friend: after your husband's death, what do you plan now with this luxurious house? Marcella: I will turn this into a monastery. I will devote the rest of my life to charity and prayers.
