Chapter 32_Home Work 1. Briefly describe the inhibitory properties and mechanism of the following antiviral drugs in virus replication.
a. Acyclovir: Blocks replication of viral genome. Is selectively

phosphorylated by herpesvirus thymidine kinases.

b. Amantadine: Blocks ion channels and inhibits uncoating of

influenza virus.
c. Ganciclovir: CMV virus encodes a protein kinase that phosphos

gan. It must be phosphod to act as an inhibitor in a similar fashion to acyclovir.

d. azidothymidine (AZT): Blocks replication of viral genome. e. nevirapine: Blocks replication of viral genome. f. ritonavir: Inhibits mutarotation. A protease inhibitor. g. zanamivir: Inhibits the release of the virion for influenza A and B. h. pleconaril: A type of capsid-binding drug. It prevents the

attachment and entry of virions.

i.

enfuvirtide: Blocks a conformational change in the viral envelope protein gp41 that is required for fusion between the viral envelope and the cell membrane.
