About SSGT Jeffery Vaughn, USA (Ret.) Purple Heart Recipient Staff Sergeant Jeffery Vaughn, USA(Ret.) is married to Traci and they have 3 children, Jade (11), Mason (5), and a 6 month old, Aiden. SSGT Jeffery Vaughn grew up in Texas and enjoyed hunting, fishing, running cross country and track. SSGT Vaughn answered the call of September 11th and joined the military. His first tour was in Kuwait in 2002 where he served with the 3Bct 1-41 Inf IAD. In 2003, he was assigned to the 5th Corp to be General William Wallaces security team for the push to Baghdad. His third tour was in June 2004 where they were attached to the 2Bct 10th Mountain Division and was in Sadr City when his sniper team was mistaken for an enemy RPG team and he was shot three times by an Abrams tank in his back and each of his thighs. Following this tragic incident, SSGT Vaughn still wanted to serve his country and he helped train a sniper team with the 1-4 Cav 1ID 4 Bct. He never deployed again and ultimately was medically discharged from the Army. About Helping a Hero.org HelpingaHero.org is a 501(c)(3) based in Texas and is the 2nd largest homebuilding organization in America for our OEF/OIF heroes. We also are the only organization with NO PAID STAFF. HelpingaHero.org has awarded 32 homes and has completed 26 homes in 5 states for severely wounded heroes injured in Iraq and Afghanistan including paraplegics, quadriplegics, double amputees, a triple amputee, several suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury, and a burn victim. Another 15 homes will be awarded on August 30th at our National Gala in Houston with Laura Bush, former First Lady of the United States. We are very excited to present this first home in LaMarque to SSGT Jeffery Vaughn, USA (Ret.). HelpingaHero.org is partnering with Friendswood Development, Drawbridge Homes, Spark Energy and a host of other donors who helped make this home a reality. We want to thank everyone who has supported Jeffery and his family on his road to recovery! This specially adapted home is really just the start of a relationship between HelpingaHero.org, the LaMarque community and the Vaughn family. Our wounded heroes face a LIFETIME of adjustment to their injuries. LaMarque has embraced this family and we are thrilled that we have assembled a great team to support Jeffery and his family as he rebuilds his life and embarks on a bright future. In order for wounded veterans to apply for our home program, they complete a detailed application and are evaluated by a committee made up of military leaders, community leaders and several Rotarians. Once approved, the heroes remain in the tickler file until funds are raised to award the home. Once the home is built, the selected veteran signs a 10 year contract agreeing to remain in the home and community for 10 years and then equity will vest 100%...although title is always in the wounded heros name from the outset. This precludes the hero from borrowing against the home for any reason and prevents it from being split in the event of a divorce. For more information, please visit our website at www.helpingahero.org This home presentation will also feature Spark Energy employees who are volunteering their time to make this event amazing! The day will kick off with a parade led by Miss Rodeo Texas then the official Key Presentation. There will be games for kids, a full Bar B Que, and home tours.
