Q1. According to ACI-318-08 section 9.5.3.

3 minimum thickness calculated for different sizes of panel are as follows: For 40 Grade steel Panel Size(ftXft) Slab Thickness(in) 15X15 4 20X20 5.5 25X25 7 For 70 Grade steel Panel Size(ftXft) Slab Thickness(in) 15X15 5 20X20 6 25X25 8

Minimum slab thickness increases with the increase of yield strength of steel. This increase of slab thickness (1") for every story will increase 12.5 Psi extra dead load, so cumulatively this will affect beam, column & footing design. So it is questionable that how much economy can be achieved by using 8mm 72.5 Grade steel. Q2. In case of slab with small panel temperature & shrinkage reinforcement governs the design than the flexural demand criteria. But the use of 40 Grade steel may cause flexural steel demand that is close to temperature and shrinkage reinforcement. So, special exercise will be paid in this regard. Q3. In Bangladesh above 95% concrete casting is done by using Composite Portland cement. Heat generation during hydration and shrinkage during setting of concrete is very less compared to Ordinary Portland cement. ACI code proposes temperature shrinkage reinforcement for slab cast with Ordinary Portland cement. Is there any recommendation guided by ACI code by using Composite Portland cement? If not Further research & study is required for this case.
