Science and Spirituality

These are the two things I see guiding the world today.There seems to be a lot of confusion about the two subjects in a layman's mind and the general notion in everyone's mind is that these two are contradictory. But I find this notion to be wrong .The similarity starts with the fact that both of them start with a 'S'.But the similarity doesn't end there.I feel that both of these are ways to understand the almighty and lead us to the ultimate truth,the truth that never changes ,the truth of advaitha.One is search for the truths of the physical world,the other the search for the truth of the nature of consciousness. Dr APJ Abdul kalam in his biography "wings of fire" says "I wonder why some people tend to see science as something which takes men away from god.As I look at it ,the path of science can always wind through the heart.For me ,science has always been the path to spiritual enrichment" Science has always tried to understand the energy in this universe,the energy which created us,created all the life around us and has continued in this path . Spirituality deals with an individual , his origin ,his destination . Spirituality makes us to realise that we are not separate from the brahman which is non destructable,which has neither end nor begining , it is ever expanding (just as our universe is). I find a few other similarities between these two . In the path of spirituality a yogi attains many siddhis or powers . He may attain the power of reading one's mind , leave this world at any time he likes and many such abilities . In the same way in science some of he discoveries , theories and hypothesis lead to the development of new technology.
