Social case work is Social Case Work is a phenomenon at once complex, dyn amic and in evolution. It is complex by virtue of the varied knowledge that feed it, the ethical commit ments that infuse it, the special auspices and conditions of its practice, the o bjectives and ends which guide it, the skills which empower it. Nucleus of social case work event is this: A person with a problem comes to a pl ace where a professional representative helps him by a given process. [Heart of any situation where a person seeks professional help] Details of the terms used provide delineating factors: The Person: A man, woman or child, anyone who finds himself, or is found to be i n need of help in some aspect of his social-emotional living. Need may be for ta ngible provisions or counsel. As he begins to receive help, he is called Client . The Problem: Arises from need or obstacle or accumulation of frustrations or mal adjustments and sometimes a combo pack of all these. It threatens adequacy of pe rson s living situation or effectiveness of his efforts to deal with it. The Place: Social service agency or government service department or any other h uman welfare agency. These are a particular type of these agencies, which deal w ith individual s problems in the management of personal lives. Their purpose is to help individuals with particular social handicap that hamper good personal or f amily living. They basically look at problems created by faulty person to person , person to group, or person to situation relationships. The Process (Social Case Work): A progressive transaction between the profession al helper (the caseworker) and the client. The term Social case work highlights in dividualized aspect as its center of attention. It consists of a series of probl em solving operations carried on within a meaningful relationship. The end of th is process is contained in its means: to influence the client-person in developin g effectiveness in coping with his problem and/or to so influence the problem as to resolve it or vitiate its effects.
