Research
What is considered as research?

A process of investigation. An examination of a subject from different points of view Defining and redefining problems and suggesting solutions
It should be Systematic It should be Logical It should be Empirical It should be Replicable

Criteria for a good research

What is NOT considered as research?

Mere information gathering Mere transfer of facts from one aspects to another

A good research ..
Requires a clear articulation of a goal Follows a specific procedure Divides the principal problem into more manageable sub problems Guided by the specific research problem, question, or hypothesis Accepts certain critical assumptions Collect and interpret data

Selecting and defining the research topic

Expectations from researchers

Background study on broad aspect Generation of ideas Ability to relate the existing works with interdisciplinary approach Sound reasoning &logic Competency with the instruments for the research

Evaluating a research topic

Does the topic is clearly defined? Does the topic is relevant? Does the topic is liable for investigation? Does the topic leads to define the objectives specifically? Does the topic will lead to the development of new insight in the research problem area?

Scientific method
 Direct

observation Clearly defined variables, methods & procedures Empirically testable hypothesis Statistical justification of conclusion Self correcting process

Research Instruments & Tools
