Ayurveda begins when everything fails and when the treatment is uncertain and prolonged; ayurvedic approach is the right choice since it cures chronic and stubborn diseases by its deeprooted treatment procedures and drugs. Ayurveda is mainly based on herbs, plants, flowers, fruits, vegetables and all vegetation that grows around us in plenty. It is our native system based on the peculiar indian conditions. Further whatever is available on our own country is bound to be more suitable in creating good health to us rather than borrowed knowledge as well as materials. Ayurveda is not man made but is believed to be divine gift. Ayurveda is the science of life or longevity, which helps in the promotion of health, prevention of diseases and in achieving a long life. The basic philosophy of Ayurveda is based on the panchamahabhoota (five elements) theory. This theory states that the universe as well as the human body is made up of five elements, namely air (vayu), space (akash), earth (prithvi), fire (agni) and water (jal). Ayurveda is believed to be amongst the most ancient sciences of healing. It is believed to have come into existence about 5000 years ago in India . Ayurveda comprises of two words 'Ayu' meaning life and 'Veda' meaning science or knowledge, together meaning 'the science of life or longevity'. Ayurveda traces its roots to the Vedas of the Indian mythology, especially to the Atharva Veda. Ayurveda believes that the universe and the human body are co-related to each other. As per the belief the human body is a living epitome of the universe, and the universe is very much similar to the living human body, always volatile and conscious Ayurveda is considered to be the science of healing practiced by the 'Rishi' and 'Munis' in India . They used the herbs and shrubs available to them, to heal them selves and the living beings in the wild. Successful events of curing various ailments led them to start documenting the remedies and the collection of these natural techniques of healing was named 'Ayurveda'. Ayurveda says that diseases in a living being are nothing but imbalance of the doshas, which can be easily regulated by following very simple ayurvedic routines. Yoga, pranayams, oil massages and controlled eating habits can easily cure any kind of disease ranging from common cold to severe heart problems.
