COMMUNITY PROGRAMME

INTRODUCTION: The trainee from Loyola college who is doing his fieldwork in jeevan trust along with lions club of golden jubilee had conducted the EYE SCREENING CAMP . jeevan trust proposed to organize the eye camp on 23-01-2011. As planned on 23-01-2011 an eye camp was organized at T.K.Pattu panchayath in redhills, Thiruvalluvar district.their THE IDENTIFIED NEED: Jeevan trust where the trainees did concurrent fieldwork, has been in constant intervention in the target area which is known as T.K.Pattu. it has been in regular touch with the people and children through crche and supplementary education programmes extended to the target population. In its regular interventions with the category of the people it has identified the need for an eye screening camp, because the situation has cried out for such a camp. REASON FOR PRIORITIZING THE NEED: When trainee went to crche and evening tuition centre, trainee found that some children read the books by placing it so closely to their eye. Also there are many old people who also had some problems with their eyes .so the trainee decided to organize a eye camp. ALTERNATIVE TO ADRESS THE NEED: Awareness programme regarding the eye problem can be put as an alternative. REASON FOR SELECTING THE APPROPRIATE APPROACH: Even of awareness is given people may not go for eye check-up do the necessary thing. So the trainees thought that an eye camp is better than an awareness camp. Awareness can be given after that. Because the immediate need was eye screening than an awareness programme.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:

To enable and help the people to live a healthy life. To promote awareness on health and hygiene To support the underprivileged, to provide a platform to get the benefits of social organizations.

FINANCIAL ASPECTS, COLLABORATING BODIES AND PROPOSED OUTCOME:

Mr. Lion.J.Leo, 324 al district chairperson, lions club of golden jubilee introduced udhi eye hospital and sponsord. Udhi eye hospital done free service and have done free operation fot the patients. Trainee : pamphlets, banners, memento and food.

PROGRAMME SCHEDULE:

8.45 am- staff from udhi eye hospital arrived 9.00 am- breakfast to staff 9.30 am- inauguration ceremony 9.45 am- screening of patients starts 2.00 pm- screening of patients ends 2.15 pm- valedictory 2.30 pm- lunch

The venue for the eye camp was T.K.Pattu community hall. The programme started at 9.30 am in the morning. The chief guest for the programme was C.Mohan, the panchayath president and special invitees were Mr. Gouthaman, jeevan trust legal advisor, Mr.Lion.J.Leo, 324 AL district chairperson, lions club of golden jubilee. Udhi eye hospital had sent a team for the camp and the team consists of seven staff. 115 people from the surroundings of T.K.Pattu panchayath area benefitted from the eye camp. 36 people were given spectacles and 8 people identified for the cataract operation but only two were taken to operation to udhi eye hospital. Others hesitated to go for the operation.

The camp was ended by 2.00 pm the doctors and staff from udhi eye hospital were provided lunch. Then as a honor. To lions club, trainee had given a memento to Mr. Lion.J.Leo. Also memento was given to Mr. C.Mohan, the panchayat president, T.K.Pattu.

ADVANTAGES AND FEEDBACK: ADVANTAGES Planned and organized the programme Well preparation Service rendered by udhi eye hospital was good Conducted the programme with lions club of golden jubilee Supports and help of jeevan trust staff Had good venue to conduct the programme One hundred and fifteen people benefitted from the programme Able to get service from other social work trainees

AREAS TO IMPROVEMENTS: It is good to little more concern to the preparation It is better to give proper awareness to the surrounding people

It is good to invite from important personality for the success of the programme It is very nice, if there is little more coordination for the programme Lack of sponsors for the programme.

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS: Organizing a community programme like an eye camp has given a vast experience. Seeing such a programme in a community the trainee prompt to do a programme like this. The support given by other persons was so impressive. The trainee could really understood how to organize and plan a programme. To whom we approach to the well execution of the programme. The facilities needed for the programme. Like that many things could learn through this programme. Above all the satisfaction the trainee received is immeasurable, because the trainee could do for the people.
