Position: Suburban Outreach Worker


The Northwest Side Housing Center (NWSHC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to build and strengthen our community by working with people for safe and affordable housing. Job Description and Responsibilities: The NWSHC is hiring a Suburban Outreach Worker to cover the cities of Des Plaines and Mount Prospect. Working with the Associate Director, the Outreach Coordinator will inform homeowners facing foreclosure about the Cook County Foreclosure Mediation Program. Responsibilities include: Participate in training on how to effectively conduct outreach. Conduct door-to-door outreach to homeowners currently in foreclosure, making multiple visits if necessary, at hours most convenient for making actual contact (evenings and weekends). Follow-up with homeowners by phone to encourage their participation in the Cook County Mediation Program. Maintain detailed records and provide monthly reports on attempts to discuss the program with homeowners. Initiate and participate in other outreach efforts, such as community meetings and meetings with other local institutions and organizations.

This is a temporary, 20 hour/week position as an Independent Contractor Qualifications: This position requires a self-motivated, energetic and detail oriented person who is comfortable reaching out to people door-to-door and by phone. Previous housing-related experience is a plus. Candidates must be a great communicator and listener that takes initiative and follows through. The position requires basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Familiarity of the northwest suburbs is a must. Flexible work schedule is needed, including nights and weekends. Bilingual Spanish-English or Polish-English is required. Must have a car with proof of insurance. Compensation: $12.00-$15.00/hour NWSHC is an Equal Opportunity Employer
