Minnesota Public Health Advocates Urge Parents to Get Children Vaccinated Before School Starts
What:
The percentage of Minnesota children up-to-date on vaccinations is declining. Less than 60 percent of Minnesota children ages 24-35 months have had all the recommended vaccines. Unvaccinated children are susceptible to potentially fatal but preventable diseases, and can also put the health of others at risk. This spring, Minnesota experienced a measles outbreak, which affected 20 people who had not been vaccinated or were too young to be vaccinated. The outbreak originated from an unvaccinated child. Advocates from the Minnesota Head Start Association, Childrens Physician Network, and Minnesota Medical Association will call on Minnesota parents to help reverse the trend by getting their children vaccinated before the start of the 2011-2012 school year.
