Method Proficiency: After a period of observation and training, the analyst will demonstrate proficiency in the following procedures by successfully performing a minimum of five competency assays for each of the following methods. Competency assays may be split samples, internally prepared samples of known concentration, quality control samples, or other samples of known concentration. The Controlled Substances Supervisor will review all competency assay work product including instrument output and protocol sheets. A summary of analyst responses versus target values will be retained as part of the training documentation packet. Note: Successful completion of the above Method Proficiency also demonstrates proficiency in the Color Testing and Unknown Sample Screening procedures which are utilized throughout the Method Proficiency process. Directly Supervised Casework: A total of 25 cases representing as many of the Stage 1 procedures as possible will be worked under direct supervision of the trainer. A list of the 25 cases analyzed and the identity of the substance identified will be retained as part of the training documentation packet. Supervised Casework: Upon successful completion of Stage 1 training, the analyst will be released to supervised casework using the Stage 1 procedures.
