Armstrong Appeals FCDC Endorsement Vote, Says Flawed Process Hurts Party And Voters
FAIRFAXLate Friday afternoon, Jeannie Armstrong, a candidate for Fairfax County School Board At Large, filed the necessary documents to appeal last weeks endorsement vote in the race citing multiple problems and irregularities with the endorsement election process. Armstrongs appeal was filed with the three Democratic Congressional District Chairs for the congressional districts in Fairfax County and the Virginia Democratic Party. The Congressional District Chairs or their appointees will hear the appeal pursuant to the Virginia Democratic Party Plan, the rules of the Democratic Party in Virginia. The security of the ballots, verification of eligible voters, and other actions by the FCDC last week during the endorsement vote have caused many people to question the legitimacy of the results, Armstrong said. Armstrong also said that she believed her opponent in the endorsement race played no part in the problems which may have led to disenfranchisement of voters or multiple ballots being cast by the same individuals. This is the result the failure of the top leadership of the FCDC to promulgate rules that protected voters and candidates, and the failure of the leadership to ensure that appropriate ballot security measures were taken, Armstrong said. The sanctity of the ballot box is of utmost importanceespecially in party elections. If our citizens and Democratic Party supporters cannot depend on the party to conduct fair elections without the potential for fraud or disenfranchisement of voters, then the party has failed in its most fundamental of goals and objectives, she continued. Armstrong said she was continuing her campaign at least until at determination can be made by the Congressional District Chairs. We owe it to Fairfax County Democrats to have an open and transparent process, which is why Ive asked for a second vote to be conducted under rules that will ensure no one is disenfranchised, and that opportunities for a select few to commit fraud or mismanage the process are greatly reduced, she said. --30--
