The Client
Our client had come to us with a very unique problem. He had a business that was data intensive. This made data protection his primary concern. He wanted to mitigate the risk of data piracy of theft through some kind of system. He knew that in any kind of data theft case or litigation for robbery of critical information the incident had to be recorded in a digital monitoring system. This made him approach Radix.

Requirements
It was very apparent that our client was looking for some kind of monitoring system or alarm system. He wanted this system to detect any security breach or intrusion through various devices. But again this was the basic idea. When we looked deeper into it, we found out the following: The system was going to be a mixed bag of a lot of different security processes. The system was going to involve sensors and CCTV cameras to detect physical intrusion. The system was also going to monitor inter process communications and inter-department exchanges to track data flow. The system was going to involve an alarm system as well. The whole system was going to be centralized in terms of control.

Radix Approach
When we were approached by the client for his requirement we were a bit apprehensive. This was an unexplored territory for us. We had never had the opportunity of developing a centralized monitoring system till then. Although

we had faith in our capabilities we did not have a case precedent to draw understanding from. But we had also decided that lack of previous experience would not be deterrent factor for us. So we rolled up our sleeves and got down to carrying out our own research about monitoring systems. This was going to be our first step in the development process.

The Solution
All our hard work put into researching and exploring different kind of monitoring systems got reflected in our system design. What we had on table for the client was a system that met all his requirements. The system also extended to certain unidentified areas of data theft as well. The system that we designed for the client looked like this:

The highlights of this monitoring system are as follows: The system is a complicated network of CCTV cameras, sensors, intruder panels, BMS panels, and data gathering panels.

The system has shared memory for memory management. We have also provided an image filter that converts an image from one format to Windows Meta File (WMF) format. The system monitors RS232 communication. There is a compression/decompression library for backup and restore of application data. The system has PC speakers interface for sound of the alarm system. The system facilitates generation of reports. The system also monitors the dongle interface for identifying unauthorized access.

Star Features
Staying true to our track record we designed certain star features in this system also. Despite being quite new to this field we managed to map out the processes succinctly and enhance the value of the system to a great extent. The value adding features and functions of this system are as follows: The control panel of the system directly corresponds with the server. The centrally installed system software sends out a system status mail to all the key persons. The system also provides suitable security guidelines for specific requirements.

The Wrap Up
Like mentioned before, this project marked our entry into the world of monitoring systems. This was our first opportunity to develop a system that dealt with monitoring data theft and recording security breach incidents. This project has expanded our scope of development and broadened our
