Dear First Minister Glasgow 2014 Limited is a private company set up and run with the aim of organising

the Commonwealth Games in 2014. I write to you today to ask that you and your ministers use the powers available to you under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 to designate the organisation as a public authority and therefore subject to the Act. I believe that as the company is one of national significance charged with delivering a massive international event on behalf of Scotland it is right and proper that it is subject to the highest possible level of public scrutiny. Whilst I recognise that the company has its own scrutiny arrangements, I believe there is a significant public interest in members of the public, journalists and interested parties in general being able to access recorded information held by the company. The company is involved with large sums of public money and its right that the public are able scrutinise the use of that money. Bringing the company under the provisions of FOISA would provide an additional level of scrutiny and transparency which would be in the public interest given the national important of the games and the company charged with delivering them. I dont wish to address the point of all companies which are wholly or partially owned by public authorities being subject to the act but ask that Glasgow 2014 Limited is examined separately given its unique purpose. I hope that you give my request consideration and look forward to your response. In the interests of the environment I ask that you communicate electronically to save paper. Regards Michael Traill 2 July 2011
