Objectives

Voltage sag analysis of a DFIG based wind turbine

Types of wind turbines

Fixed speed wind turbines Variable speed turbines with variable rotor resistances Variable speed wind turbine with DFIG Full converter wind turbine

DFIG(Double fed induction generator)

DFIG(Double fed induction generator)

contd
The rotor of the DFIG is connected to the grid through two back to back grid converters. It is required to have a constant dc link voltage which is done by grid side converter. DFIG is controlled by the rotor side converter to generate the optimal active power depending on the wind speed.

Causes of voltage sag

Symmetrical fault Asymmetrical fault

Symmetrical fault
It is a 3 phase fault, that can be explained by voltage divider model.

Asymmetrical fault

The asymmetrical faults are

LL FAULT LLG FAULT LG FAULT

contd

Types B to G falls under asymmetrical fault type as they are LL,LG AND LLG fault.
