TRIGONOMETRY

A brief introduction

Introduction
The word comes from Greek trig non "triangle + metron measure. A branch of mathematics that studies triangles and the relationships between their sides and the angles between these sides. Trigonometry is as fascinating as Universe itself. The roots of trigonometry lies in Greek and Indian Mathematics.

Trigonometric Functions
In a right angled triangle, if the angles are known the sides can be determined or vice versa.

Fields of Applications
Astronomy Architecture Geophysics Optics Electronics Medical Imaging Music theory Chemistry

Identities
Identities are those equations that hold true for any value.

Angle transformation

Law of sines
The law of sines states that:

Here R is the radius of the circumscribed circle of the triangle, given by:

Law of cosine and tangent

Law of cosine is an extension of the Pythagorean theorem to arbitrary angles.

Law of tangents:

Geometric representation

Summary
Trigonometry is finding new areas of application everyday. Basic knowledge of trigonometry is essential for understanding manifold of nature. Trigonometry touches our life more than we can imagine. Without the knowledge of trigonometry our civilization will be something else.
