MOB: SESSION SUMMARY Culture is the set of values, norms, guiding beliefs and understanding that is shared by members

of an organization. It is present everywhere in the organization. The culture is not seen but is felt when some changes are implemented and then we feel the power of culture. The culture contains visible elements as well as underlying elements. The visible elements of culture reflect deeper values in the minds of organizational members. The underlying values and beliefs and thought process are the basic elements of culture and represent the true essence of the culture. The values are the desirable end states. It is something which is preferred over any other alternative state. It is something that is expected to be desired. On the other hand beliefs are things which are desired and they are more personal as compared to values. There are organizational myths to that play an important part in the culture of an organization. Every myth gives some message to everybody and is interpreted differently by different individual. They are results of some legends and sometimes true stories. The Culture has to be interpreted by seeing the visible artefacts. Some of them are rites, ceremonies, stories, symbols and the language. They are crucial for understanding culture as well as the underlying elements like values and beliefs. Harsh Vardhan Roll: 13
