* Winter Wonderland *

For many the triathlon season is drawing to a close , the 'A' race is behind you and the offseason is looming. For triathletes the winter months represent a great opportunity to reect on the season passed, build on your strengths and spend time developing new skills and abilities. Too often 'off-season' training passes unstructured and ruined by the British weather especially if the last two winters are anything to go by. Before you know it, the 2012 season looms large but you are lacking tness & under prepared. T2's advice..... ' Hit the Turbo ' Whilst the turbo trainer cannot replicate road conditions or polish your bike handling skills, is this such a bad thing? You will never get soaked to the skin or have to steer clear of pot holes and puncture hazards. It is well documented that pro athletes such as Andy Potts spend the vast majority of their time cycling indoors. It is said that on her way to winning Ironman Canada in 2010, Meredith Kessler rode outside just once a fortnight. An increasing number of age group athletes are following suit by ditching the road for indoor cycling. The benets of riding indoors are many for e.g. 1 hour is plenty of time to deliver a quality session ideal for the busy age-grouper. You control the session intensity, effort, power and cadence of workouts so improvements are easy to monitor. Athletes also note that indoor cycling lends itself to building mental strength.
