The Gathering of the Dread Host of Xiuhcoatl Xiuhcoatl opened his eyes. The startled skink attending him jumped and skittered in surprise, rushed to fetch water and food, and called for Chief Attendant Ruichi. His lord hadnt opened his eyes in more than a thousand years, and hadnt spoken in more than two thousand. They had cared for him in Tlalli their island temple, long forgotten by the rest of the lizardmen kingdoms, long separated after the sundering. Cut off from the rest of the world for millennia, Tlalli was home to countless skinks, and saurus, and guarded endlessly by the Temple Guard. All were in the service to Xiucoatl the Silent, and all waited for his awakening. Chief Attendant Ruichi was worried. His Lord had not stirred in his lifetime, nor in the lifetime of his predecessor, or his predecessors predecessor. It seemed that his master had at last found what he was looking for. He had been searching for centuries for the clue that would lead him to the next phase in the plan of the Old Ones, the creator race. Ruichi didn't know anything beyond that his master had slumbered, and that they had taken care of his needs. But now that he was awake, it seemed that their quiet way of life would be at an end. He feared what would come in the days ahead. Xiuhcoatls eyes burned with a fire that his people had never seen before. There was a danger there so great that even Ruichi was afraid to approach. They seemed to draw him in though, and compelled him to come close. In his mind there was a probing, curious and all yet all knowing. Finally, there was recognition and Xiucoatl spoke in his mind, "IT IS TIME" and Ruichi quaked. The Host of Xiuhcoatl grew as the days past, as though all in the island of Tlalli were drawn to him. At first it was just a trickle of outlying skinks and saurus, and finally it grew to a roar as all the beasts and warriors and defenders of the temple came. They knew, whether instinctively, or through some telepathic bond that war was upon them. Seemingly without being ordered, great ships of war were constructed. Weapons were manufactured with alarming speed, and the seers of the skink counsel began predicting the weather and consulting the charts. When at last Xiuhcoatl mounted his palanquin and emerged from the temple, Ruichi could see that there was no turning back. Ruichi watched as his master floated to the top of the highest temple, and from there he addressed his Dread Host. He was beginning to remember things that he shouldn't have forgotten, as ancient memories of his station finally manifested. He scampered to his customary position on the palanquin, seemingly unconsciously. He felt a great presence in his mind, as Xiuhcoatl began to speak. "TODAY IS THE DAY WE MARCH ON THE WORLD. I HAVE SEEN THE PLAN IN ITS ENTIRETY. I KNOW WHAT WE MUST DO. TODAY BEGINS THE END OF THE WORLD. IT IS OUR TASK, AND WE MUST NOT QUALE. KNOW THAT I HAVE SEEN ALL THAT HAS BEEN, AND ALL THAT WILL BECOME. DO NOT BALK AT THE TASK AHEAD. DO NOT FEAR WHAT WILL BECOME. WE MUST NOT TIRE, WE MUST NOT FAIL. TODAY BEGINS THE END OF THE WORLD. AND WE WILL USHER IT IN." Ruichi wept, and nodded, and followed his master to war.
